Known both as a doctor of medicine and the author of books on art and the brain order published in the 1950s and 1960s, Marcelle Wahl is much less known for her painting and enamels on glass, produced mainly before the Second World War. However, throughout the 1920s, she exhibited enameled glasswork at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs and the Salon d’Automne “which were not without interest,” as noted in issue 22 of Echos des Industries d’Art in May 1927. Influenced by Expressionism, these glassworks were generally decorated with abstract or stylized motifs in bright, vibrant colors, applied in powerful strokes. Part of the former Marcilhac collection, this blue and black enamelled vase, suggesting the stylised bodies of dancers, was exhibited and published many times before being bought in 2014 by the glass art enthusiast, Barlach Heuer, who offered it that same year to the Conches glass museum.
