Pot oval couvert (Covered oval pot)

François Décorchemont, 1965

François Décorchemont, an expert in pâte de verre, or glass paste, made decorative works of art as of the beginning of the 20th century, before turning towards stained glass in the 1930s. He nonetheless never totally stopped his production of jars and bowls in pâte de verre, creating some models before and after the Second World War and even more often creating new specimens from old models. Created in 1933, this model of a covered oval pot was produced in twelve copies until 1969, and its cover with its chameleon shape would be a model for paperweights. This copy with its emerald green colour was produced in 1965 and acquired by Barlach Heuer, an art connoisseur, who lent it to the Dusseldorf Kunstmuseum in 1973. After he retired, Barlach Heuer donated it to our Conches Glass Museum, in the city where he had acquired it forty years ago.
