19th century inclusion glasses

While French crystal appeared at the end of the 18th century, technical innovations encouraged the inclusion of ceramic cameos and enamels in this new clear and limpid material.

Highly appreciated by the nobility of the Empire and then by the new bourgeoisie that flourished during the Restoration, very beautiful inclusion glasses decorated with motifs reproducing the insignia of the Legion of Honor, the profiles of historical and religious figures, as well as symbols of love were then produced in the great French crystal factories such as Montcenis, Saint-Louis, Baccarat, and Bercy. Presented for the first time at the François Décorchemont Glass Museum, the hundred inclusion glasses from the Darnis collection thus bear witness to Romanticism, history, and the taste for decorations in the 19th century.
