Les années Biot de Denis Brihat (When Denis Brihat was at Biot)
In 1952, the photographer Denis Brihat moved to Biot, where he opened a studio Places des Arcades. A short time later, he joined Rapho Agency as their correspondent on the French Côte d’Azur.
This led him to shoot the portraits of Picasso, Germaine Richier, Jean Cocteau, as well as artists working and living in Biot: Hans Hedberg, Michel Chauvet, Fernand Léger, Roland Brice. He also took pictures of Biot, the nature surrounding it, life in the village, the festivities held there, the inhabitants, Mimi and André Brothier, who owned what would become the famous hotel-re-gallery on the Place des Arcades.
When Eloi Monod created his artisanal glassworks, Denis Brihat was there. His photos are a strong testimonial to the very beginnings of this adventure: Eloi, his wife, Lucette, their daughter Véronique, eating lunch together in the courtyard, and the glassmakers, Lopez and Vinosky. An exceptional atmosphere of a small community coming together because of the same passion they have for glass.
The 7th Photographic Biennale is a cultural event sponsored by the City of Conches. It has received financial support from the Eure Department and the SAIF (Société des Auteurs des arts visuels et de l'Image Fixe).
